sustainability important issue many students, faculty, , college administrators. currently, wind power provides 100% of college s total electricity, , leed- certified level must met of college s projects. reuters listed lewis & clark 1 of ten best universities in united states studying cleantech.


athletics

lewis & clark maintains 9 male , 10 female varsity sports teams, , athletic facilities including pamplin sports center , griswold stadium. lewis & clark athletic teams called pioneers, , team colors orange , black. pioneers compete in northwest conference against 8 other ncaa division iii institutions in pacific northwest. 1 in 5 undergraduates officially designated student athletes. recent accomplishments in varsity athletics include men s rowing team winning conference, women s swim team winning third in conference, , men s , women s basketball both earning third in conference. in 2011 season, women s cross-country team placed seventh @ west regionals, men s team placing 13th. 2011-2012 men s basketball team lost in nwc semifinals putting them in 4th place in conference. additionally, women s team of same year placed second in nwc , made appearance in ncaa diii national tournament. volleyball , basketball teams play in pamplin sports center. football, soccer , track , field events take place @ griswold stadium.


a large number of smaller club , intramural sports such rugby, ultimate frisbee, , boffing enjoy broad participation. lewis & clark students have invented several intramural competitive sports, including ninja , wolvetch, popular @ lewis & clark seldom played elsewhere. while varsity athletic events attended, there has long been tension between varsity athletes , non-athletes regarding perceived social , cultural differences, substantial financial support varsity sports teams enjoy.

pioneer express shuttle bus starting trip downtown portland, in 2016


throughout year college operates shuttle bus between campus , downtown portland, pioneer express (also referred pio express ). trimet line 39 operates between college , hillsdale neighborhood, students can transfer buses downtown portland. first-year students not permitted have cars on campus.
