Broadcast delays in Spain Eurovision Song Contest 2009






due commitments broadcast madrid open tennis tournament, spanish broadcaster televisión española (tve) broadcast second semifinal on tape delay on channel la 2, approximately 66 minutes after show began in moscow. result of tape delay, broadcaster utilized backup jury rather televoting decide votes. tve had switched voting in second semi-final due scheduling conflict, had sparked criticism neighboring andorran , portuguese delegations, stated spanish vote have positively influenced performance in first semifinal.


on day following semifinal, local newspaper el mundo speculated rtve may have administered delay on purpose in order prevent spain winning contest, claiming broadcaster not ready host contest if spain win. statement in abc had cited technical difficulties delay.


after semi-finals, ebu announced spain face sanctions actions in contest, stated participation in 2009 contest in moscow not affected. spanish entry, la noche es para mí , did not fare in contest itself, placing 24th during finals.
