in 2001, president george w. bush appointed him president s council of science , technology. in 2004, bush appointed him member of national science board, oversees national science foundation , provides advice congress , president on issues of science , technology. in 2004, american society of civil engineers presented him outstanding projects , leaders award contribution education, , university of california, berkeley college of engineering honored him 1 of 4 distinguished engineering alumni awards.


in 2008, clough made honorary member of anak society, georgia tech s oldest known secret society , honor society. in october 2008, national academy of engineering presented clough arthur m. bueche award leadership in science, technology, , engineering policy. in february 2009, received joseph m. pettit alumni distinguished service award recognizes lifetime of leadership, achievement , service georgia tech; , in march 2009, inducted technology hall of fame of georgia.

during ground breaking ceremony g. wayne clough undergraduate learning commons building held in 2010, president bud peterson , university system of georgia chancellor erroll b. davis jr. presented clough proclamation declaring him president emeritus of georgia institute of technology. in 2011, georgia tech opened g. wayne clough undergraduate learning commons building named in honor of commitment undergraduate students; dedicated on clough s birthday, september 24, 2011. in may 2011, awarded 2011 foreign policy association medal.
