from 1801 1805, gavasini commanded in carniola, corresponds modern-day slovenia. headquarters located in ljubljana (laibach).


in war of third coalition, gavasini led 7 battalion brigade in archduke charles, duke of teschen s army of italy. @ time of battle of verona, unit assigned left wing under paul davidovich. after reorganization, fought in eugène-guillaume argenteau s reserve @ battle of caldiero on 29–31 october 1805. brigade included 4 battalions of archduke rudolf infantry regiment nr. 16, 3 battalions of lattermann infantry regiment nr. 45, , 8 squadrons of stipczic hussar regiment nr. 10.

gavasini resigned army in 1806, recalled service before outbreak of war of fifth coalition. @ beginning of conflict commanded brigade of landwehr comprised 2 battalions trieste, 2 battalions gorizia (görz), , 4 battalions postojna (adelsberg). after eruption of tyrolean rebellion, austrian high command dispatched johann gabriel chasteler de courcelles , division aid of rebels. in consequent reorganization of archduke john of austria s army of inner austria, gavasini emerged brigade commander in ix armeekorps of ignaz gyulai. brigade made of 3 battalions of reisky infantry regiment n. 13 , 1 , one-half battalions of otocaner grenz infantry regiment nr. 2. led unit @ battle of sacile on 16 april 1809. viii armeekorps of albert gyulai absorbed main attack of eugène de beauharnais army while ix armeekorps waited in reserve. in afternoon, archduke john unleashed ignaz gyulai s troops , pressed outmatched franco-italian left flank win contest.


at battle of piave river on 8 may 1809, commanded 2 battalions of otocaner regiment in ix armeekorps. none of sources specify gavasini s brigade deployed. however, albert gyulai s 2 viii armeekorps brigades held right flank near mandre while johann kalnássy s ix armeekorps brigade formed extreme left flank @ cimadolmo. late in afternoon, franco-italian army broke through ignaz gyulai s line in center , forced archduke john commit reserve brigade of grenadiers. when these elite troops failed stop enemies, austrian army forced retreat.


after piave, archduke john retreated villach main body while sending ignaz gyulai laibach sustain defense of croatia. after reorganization, gavasini found himself leading brigade in anton von zach s division of ignaz gyulai s army corps. commanded 2 battalions of otocaner regiment, 2 battalions of archduke franz karl infantry regiment nr. 52, , 8 cannons of 3-pound brigade battery. on 24 june, otocaner , archduke franz karl regiments skirmished jean-baptiste broussier s division @ karlsdorf, suburb of graz. troops fought in battle of graz on 25 , 26 june.


gavasini retired again on 10 december 1809 , never returned military service. died @ klagenfurt on 28 november 1834.
