nightbreed not received critics. review aggregate website rotten tomatoes reports 38% of critics gave film positive write-ups based on 21 reviews, rating of 5.1 out of 10. in review toronto star, henry mietkiewicz wrote “nightbreed might have been monster movie milestone, if clive barker s directorial abilities had kept pace skill master of british horror fiction. unfortunately, nightbreed remembered haphazard plotting , underdeveloped characters delightfully daring concept”. derek malcolm wrote in review guardian “it neither direct nor subtle enough piece of film-making. difficult suggest evil human , monsters have souls within context of mountain of special effects. result patchy in extreme , not capable of transcending genre has become less , less intriguing less , less left imagination”.
