the socialist federal republic of yugoslavia, of serbia part, not eastern bloc country, member of non-aligned movement , such, far more open western influences compared other socialist states. western-influenced pop , rock music socially accepted, yugoslav rock scene developed , covered in media, included numerous magazines, radio , tv shows. paralleling breakup of yugoslavia due civil war, rock scene ceased exist. during 1990s popularity of rock music declined in serbia, , although several major mainstream acts managed sustain popularity, underground , independent music scene developed. 2000s saw revival of mainstream scene.
