polioplus: rotarians have mobilized hundreds of thousands ensure children immunized against crippling disease , surveillance strong despite poor infrastructure, extreme poverty , civil strife of many countries. since polioplus program’s inception in 1985 more 2 billion children have received oral polio vaccine. date, 209 countries, territories , areas around world polio-free. of january 2012, india declared polio free first time in history, leaving pakistan, nigeria , afghanistan endemic polio. of june 2011, rotary has committed more us$850 million global polio eradication. rotary has received $355 million in challenge grants bill , melinda gates foundation. bill , melinda gates foundation: rotary committed raising $200 million june 30, 2012 , met goal january 2012. represents $555 million toward polio eradication.


polioplus fund: grants supported out of polioplus fund geared towards national level , supra-national efforts. example, national polioplus committee chairs or major partner agency, such world health organization or unicef may apply these funds. support available eradication efforts in polio-endemic, endemic, , high-risk countries, including national immunization days, poliovirus transmission monitoring, , other activities.


polioplus partners program allows rotarians participate in polio eradication effort contributing specific social mobilization , surveillance activities in polio-endemic countries. in 2003–2004, grants approved in africa , south asia total of $330,000.
