the uq union peak student representation body coordinates various student services , activities, including on 190 affiliated clubs , societies, of whom listed below.

uq sport

uq sport offers wide range of sport, fitness , recreation opportunities @ st lucia , gatton campuses of university of queensland. facilities , services open students, staff, alumni, , general public.

the uq aquatic centre operated uq sport , consists of 2 pools; 50-metre, outdoor heated pool , small enclosed heated teaching pool. main pool 50m lap pool minimum of 3 lanes dedicated public lap swimming throughout opening hours.

the uq athletics centre maintains olympic standard 8 lane synthetic track , grandstand able accommodate 565 spectators. uq sport , fitness centre multi-purpose indoor facility.

the uq tennis centre largest tennis centre in both brisbane , queensland. uq playing fields , ovals managed uq sport, home total of 8 oval fields @ st lucia campus. majority designated use particular sports including cricket, rugby , soccer. these ovals used recreational activities , lunchtime social sport.

events , traditions

three minute thesis in 2008, university originated 3 minute thesis competition students completing higher degree research. 3 minute thesis held annually @ universities across australasia. challenges participants present research in 180 seconds, in engaging form can understood intelligent audience no background in research area. exercise develops presentation, research , academic communication skills , supports development of research students capacity explain work effectively.

inspired trinity college great court run of university of cambridge, university of queensland organises annual 636m sprint race around uq sandstone great court.

market day during orientation week , first week of each semester, market day organised throughout campbell place , great court @ st lucia campus. uq union , clubs , societies have stalls , organises social activities.

careers fair uq careers fair annual event brings university students , major employers across country. degree-specific careers fairs held annually or bi-annually, such engineering careers expo.

residential colleges

the university of queensland has 11 residential colleges 10 of these located on st lucia campus , 1 on gatton campus. university of queensland intercollege council organisational , representative body residential colleges coordinates sporting , cultural events , competitions.

cromwell college co-ed college founded in 1950. affiliated uniting church , accommodates 247 students.
duchesne college women s college founded in 1937 in toowong, moving university in 1959. affiliated society of sacred heart , accommodates 200 students.
emmanuel college co-educational college founded in 1911. accommodates 350 students.
gatton halls of residence established in 1897 , has 440 residential students, making far largest , oldest college @ university.
grace college women s college founded in 1970. accommodates 180 students.
international house co-educational college international , australian students founded in 1965.
king s college provides accommodation 260 male students of university.
st john s college co-educational college founded in 1911. administered anglican diocese of brisbane.
st leo s college men s college affiliated roman catholic archdiocese of brisbane.
