the university of witwatersrand library service consists of 2 main libraries, warteinweiler , william cullen libraries on east campus, , twelve branch libraries. wartenweiler library serves faculty of humanities. contains library administration, library computer services , technical services departments short loan collection, reference collection, inter-library loans department, multimedia library, , education , training department electronic classroom. william cullen library contains africana collection, specialising in social, political , economic history. contains , fine printed books collection, includes incunabula (books printed before 1501). finally, contains collection of government publications , journals in arts, humanities , social sciences. branch libraries are:



the martienssen library built environment, serves schools of architecture , planning , construction management within faculty of engineering , built environment. located in john moffat building (also known architecture building) on east campus.
the biological & physical sciences library situated in oppenheimer life sciences building on east campus , serves faculty of science, geomaths library.
the commerce library which, along wits library of management, serves schools of commerce , management. located west of tower of light on west campus.
the education library (also known harold holmes library) located on wits education campus in parktown , serves school of education within faculty of humanities.
the engineering library, located in chamber of mines building on west campus , serves schools of engineering within faculty of engineering , built environment.
the geomaths library, situated in basement of senate house on east campus , serves range of schools within faculties of science, engineering , built environment, , humanities.
the witwatersrand health sciences library (whsl) serves faculty of health sciences. divided 4 branches, 1 of (formerly @ helen joseph hospital) virtual library available online. 2 of other branches @ wits medical campus in parktown, while remaining branch @ chris hani baragwanath hospital in soweto.
the wits library of management, which, commerce library, serves schools of commerce , management. located in donald gordon building on management campus in parktown.
the law library serves school of law within faculty of commerce, law , management. located in oliver schreiner law building on west campus. unlike university s other libraries, law library governed directly school of law, rather university of witwatersrand library.
