career
early career

murphy decided play under stage name after people came shows thinking different , established musician named nick murphy. settled on name chet faker homage chet baker: listened lot of jazz , big fan of ... way sang, when moved mainstream singing. had fragile vocal style—this really, broken, close-up , intimate style. name kind of ode chet baker , mood of music used play—something @ least pay homage in own music. other influences has cited include bob dylan, mother s motown albums , father s chilled out ibiza cds .

lockjaw ep , built on glass (2013–15)

on 12 august 2013, faker released new single, melt , featuring american vocalist kilo kish. in november 2013, flume , faker released ep, titled lockjaw. faker s debut studio album, built on glass, released on 11 april 2014, preceded release of lead single, talk cheap , , accompanying music video on 11 february 2014. album debuted @ number 1 on aria charts.


in january 2015, announced faker perform @ boston calling music festival in may 2015. later month, talk cheap named number 1 song in 2014 triple j hottest 100 countdown, while 2 of other singles, gold , 1998 , reached top ten, placing @ number 7 , 8 respectively. in june, faker released new single titled bend , unreleased track intended built on glass. promoted australian built on live tour in october.


faker released new ep, work, collaboration london-based dj marcus marr on 4 december 2015.
