history
early years

founded on 15 january 1921 hendrik school students, middle school in paramaribo, suriname, s.v. transvaal unusually named after former province of south africa, transvaal province. founded in same year 2 other clubs paramaribo, namely olympia , ajax. first 3 years prior foundation of organized football in suriname, transvaal played on gouvernementsplein in paramaribo amongst various other clubs, competing in leagues of different associations. 1923 marked official start of organized football in suriname, transvaal starting in tweede klasse (present day eerste klasse), second flight of football in suriname. 1923 marked inauguration of cultuurtuinlaan, new football facility, built dr. e. snellen, director of agriculture in suriname. transvaal participated in inaugural ceremony, beat juliana in 2–0 win. transvaal remained tenants of cultuurtuinlaan next 30 years until completion of national stadium.

in 1924, transvaal won first title, winning tweede klasse undefeated in maiden season. club able win 6 matches played, earning 12 points in competition, , scoring 16 goals while conceding none. first time team had gone undefeated or played season without conceding goals. transvaal subsequently promoted svb hoofdklasse, top flight of football in suriname, after 1 season in second tier.

in 1925, sv transvaal won second consecutive title , first national championship, winning hoofdklasse in third season. after period of dominance ajax , cicerone, transvaal won title once more in 1937. same year svb organized first trip brazil, transvaal player waldy goedhart joining national team play exhibition matches against tuna luso, paysandu , remo.

on 28 march 1947 matches played @ night in suriname first time, light fixtures assembled @ cultuurtuinlaan, matches played on night naks vs. robinhood @ 19:00 , transvaal vs. paramaribo @ 20:00. key players of forties , fifties include tjokrosendjojo kamsoe, ronald breinburg , walther braithwaite, later become manager of club.

rise dominance

the 1960s marked decade of success transvaal, winning 7 out of 10 titles beginning in 1962, conceding 1961 , 1963 titles leo victor , 1964 edition robinhood. team managed andré kamperveen, 1 of country s famous players , transvaal s famous managers, had taken on position in 1958. in 1967 succeeded ronald kolf helped transvaal 2 national titles before relinquishing position jules lagadeau. both kolf , lagadeau earned stripes players on pitch prior taking respective managerial roles. transvaal boasted of country s best players @ time, players such edwin schal, iwan fränkel, harald reumel, roy vanenburg , armand sahadewsing.

in 1962 transvaal participated in first edition of paramaribo cup. played fortaleza, losing 2–1 visiting team brazil. on 10 april 1962 played santa cruz brazil, losing 2–1 well. 1964 edition of paramaribo cup saw transvaal losing visitors botafogo brazil in 4–1 loss. apart 4–0 win against olaria, transvaal unable secure wins in series.

in 1968, transvaal travelled europe first time, scheduling games in netherlands , belgium, against dutch eredivisie clubs sparta, ajax, elinkwijk, az 67 , nac, , against belgian pro league side royal antwerp. transvaal able secure 4 wins, , 1 draw losing ajax on tour.

1968 concacaf champions cup

in 1968, transvaal participated in first continental tournament, qualifying 1968 concacaf champions cup. team able make final in first berth in competition, defeating scherpenheuvel netherlands antilles 4–2 on aggregate score , aurora guatemala 3–1 on aggregate score in process qualifying finals. final against toluca mexico never happened due brawl had ensued after final match against aurora when supporters both clubs had invaded pitch. transvaal disqualified disorderly conduct.

in 1969, flamengo rio de janeiro, brazil came paramaribo play pre-season friendly matches against robinhood , transvaal @ national stadium. brazilian international garrincha playing flamengo @ time. while robinhood lost first match 3–1 visitors, transvaal able secure 3–2 win against visiting team.

1971: pelé s 1000th match

on 27 january 1971, o rei himself pelé , santos f.c. santos, são paulo came suriname play transvaal @ national stadion. match on 28 january 1971 of historic significance 1000th career match played pelé. transvaal line-up included emile barron, nortan, gesser, sordam, boschman, lagadeau, bundel, vanenburg, schal, brammerloo , klimsop, while santos line-up match included cejos. lima, ramon delgodo, olando, hildo leo, mene, arken, pi colé, pelé , edu. santos won match 4–1 against transvaal.

in 1972, edwin wiene schal became first transvaal player called concacaf all-star team, considered 1 of top players in confederation @ time.

1973 season: highest accolades

showing steady improvement each season, 1973 season proved transvaal s successful date. under guidance of jules lagadeau, transvaal went on win national title undefeated winning country s first ever concacaf champions cup following withdrawal of both costa rican clubs alajuelense , saprissa.

1981 season: golden age

by 1981, transvaal had become 1 of successful sides in surinamese football. had amassed 14 league titles , held concacaf champions league win surinamese side in 1971. season add recent international triumph on none other atlético marte of el salvador.

the 1981 concacaf champions cup final took place in city of paramaribo, capital of suriname. according former players, onset of civil war in el salvador reason concacaf decided hold both games in andre kamperveen stadion in suriname.

1986 concacaf champions cup

in 1986, transvaal made finals of continental tournament fourth time. defeating sv juventus (netherlands antilles), undeba (netherlands antilles) , rivals robinhood (suriname), clinching caribbean region, transvaal defeated trintoc (trinidad , tobago) in semi-final face alajuelense (costa rica) in final. losing series 4–2 on aggregate score, fourth time 2 clubs drawn in history of tournament.

1990–2000s , end of era

although transvaal unable proceed past rounds of caribbean region in concacaf champions cup during nineties, club did win 5 national titles in decade, winning hoofdklasse in 1990, 1991, 1996, 1997 , 2000. closest transvaal came advancing in continental tournament 10–0 aggregate defeat against seattle sounders in usa/caribbean playoff round introduced tournament year. loss against team seattle marked end of transvaal s firm presence within tournament having suffered unprecedented loss.

a year later new format tournament introduced cfu club championship. transvaal failed advance past first group stage of tournament. qualified 2001 edition forced withdraw due complications in domestic league saw no matches contested year. transvaal have not qualified cfu club championship since.

new ownership, new coaches 2015-present

after witnessing how transvaal relegated eerste klasse in 2014-15 season, many people wonder if transie rise dominance again.

then on 22 december 2015, rudisa bought club , in 2016 appointed dennis baino head coach. new owner , manager brought changes club, 1 of changes players train 4 times week. @ end of 2016 season, transie ended in second , qualified cfu club championship, being first time in 20 years have qualified themselves.

on 29 january 2017, board of transvaal decided replace baino, after 8 games played in new topklasse league, because failed keep club in mid table. 2 days later board appointed baino s assistant, raymond mannen new head coach. next day transie played against snl under new manager , won match 2 goals one.
