deir yassin built on eastern slopes of hill, elevation of 800 meters (2,600 ft) above sea level , commanding wide view around it. village faced western suburbs of jerusalem 1 kilometer (0.62 mi) away. city center of jerusalem 5 kilometers (3.1 mi) east. separated city terraced valley planted fig, almond, , olive orchards. along northern rim of valley ran secondary road linking deir yassin suburbs , main jaffa road 2 kilometers (1.2 mi) north.


the total land area of village consisted of 2,857 dunams, of 94.5% arab-owned, 5.3% jewish-owned , remainder public property. cultivable land amounted total of 866 dunams (30%), of grown grains , owned arabs. built-up area of village 12 dunams.
