jiménez made major league baseball debut on september 26, 2006. came in relief pitcher colorado rockies during eighth inning of 11–4 home loss los angeles dodgers. allowed 2 hits , no runs. make first major league start on october 1 against chicago cubs on road, last game of regular season. jiménez allowed 3 hits , 3 earned runs on span of  6 ⁄3 innings in 8–5 loss. didn t receive decision game.


jiménez earned first major league win on july 29, 2007 @ home against los angeles dodgers. pitched 6 innings, giving 4 hits , 2 earned runs. rockies won game, 9–6. on september 5, gained distinction of giving barry bonds s 762nd , final career home run. jiménez made major league baseball postseason debut on october 6 during game 3 of 2007 national league division series in colorado against philadelphia phillies. started game , pitched 6 innings, allowing 3 hits , 1 earned run, part of 2–1 victory (the win gave rockies series sweep on phillies). however, jiménez didn t receive decision game. started second consecutive game of postseason on october 12, game 2 of 2007 national league championship series against arizona diamondbacks on road. pitched 5 innings, giving 1 hit , 1 earned run. rockies win game, 3–2, jiménez received second straight postseason no-decision. colorado swept arizona , faced boston red sox in 2007 world series. jiménez started game 2, suffering 2–1 loss in boston. allowed 3 hits , 2 earned runs in  4 ⁄3 innings. boston went on sweep colorado.


in 2008, jiménez went 12–12 3.99 earned run average. 34 starts led national league. threw fastest fastball among starters in major leagues, averaging 94.9 mph.


2009–2011

during 2008 offseason, jiménez signed four-year, $10-million dollar contract club option 2013–14. in 2009 season, went 15–12 3.47 era, second full season starter in majors. jiménez pitched @ least 6 innings in franchise-record 25 consecutive starts may 1 – september 7.

on july 31, 2011, jiménez traded cleveland indians in exchange alex white, joe gardner, matt mcbride , drew pomeranz. tom verducci wrote in sports illustrated shortly before trade jimenez has terrific stuff, powerful frame , work ethic of blast furnace working alarming number of innings in high altitude conditions , putting strain on rockies ace. jiménez later recount difficult days had rockies organization in 2012 interview during spring training. kind of hard being rockies. went through lot of things people outside organization don t know. me , people in front office know.


on april 2, 2012, jiménez suspended 5 games mlb hitting former teammate troy tulowitzki pitch on elbow previous day. walked toward each other , separated, no punches thrown , no ejections made. jiménez in conflict tulowitzki after , former teammate carlos gonzález got lucrative contract extensions after 2010 season, while jiménez did not. intended appeal suspension later decided against doing so. in start against toronto blue jays on july 14, jiménez struggled command , had shortest outing on season, being pulled after 2 1/3 innings, , matched career-high 8 earned runs. in previous 7 games era 2.14 after loss, record fell 8–8 , era rose 5.09. jiménez finished career worst 17 losses while winning 9 games indians. led league in wild pitches 16.


jiménez rebounded in 2013, finishing record of 13–9 in 32 starts indians. dropped era 3.30, 2 runs lower previous season.


jiménez elected opt out of final year of contract indians , became free agent on november 1, 2013.

2014

on february 19, 2014, jiménez s half season of success earned him 4-year $50 million deal baltimore orioles.

in first season baltimore, jimenez 6–9 4.81 era in 25 games (22 starts). included on teams alds roster, did not pitch in series. despite being on alds roster, jimenez left off of o s alcs roster against kansas city royals. after failed season orioles president dan duquette refused cut him or trade him because team believed bring bring half season of success


2015

on april 11, 2015, in first start of season, jimenez pitched 7 shutout innings, against toronto blue jays. allowed 2 base runners, single josé reyes in 4th, , walk him in 6th, , struck out 8. on april 17, 2015, in start against boston red sox, jiménez ejected first time in career home plate umpire jordan baker. jiménez had hit pablo sandoval in right shoulder. baker deemed hit pitch intentional, after sandoval had slid second baseman jonathan schoop, break double play.


after starting first half of season going 7-4 2.81 era in 17 starts, jimenez had disappointing second half, pitched 5.63 era 5-6 record after all-star break. finished 2015 season moderate 4.11 era in 32 starts. went 12-10 1.32 whip , 168 strikeouts in 184 innings pitched.


2016

heading 2016 season, jimenez looked carry on success previous season struggled mightily in first half, registering era of 7.38 through 18 appearances. on september 5, jimenez pitched first complete game since 2011. after allowing 3-run home run in first inning rays, jimenez retired 25 of final 26 batters faced, including final 17 batters of game. orioles first complete game since september 3 of 2014. in next start, jimenez lowered era below 6 first time since may 17. pitched 7 innings of 2-run ball, earning fourth straight quality start, , fifth straight start allowing 3 or fewer runs. jimenez finish season 8-12 record , era of 5.44 in 29 games, 25 starts.


in wild card game, jimenez entered game in bottom of 11th inning 1 out , no 1 on base. proceeded give 3 straight hits, last of game , season ending walk-off home run edwin encarnación, ending orioles season.


2017

jimenez opened season o s 4th starter. throughout whole season, jimenez endured career worst season, setting career highs in era (6.81), earned runs (108) , home runs allowed (33). 2017 season marked jimenez s final season in baltimore, ending 4 year run record of 32-42 , era of 5.22 baltimore.
