the temple located in pillayarpalayam area of kanchipuram. metraleeswarar temple complex has 2 prakarams (outer courtyard) , three-tiered rajagopuram (gateway tower) facing west. central shrine faces west , holds image of metraleeswarar (shiva) in form of lingam made of granite. temples in kanchipuram have no separate shrine of parvathi believed kamakshi of kanchipuram common parvathi shrine shiva temples. temple has separate shrine parvathi in form of metralinayagi. granite images of nandi (the bull , vehicle of shiva) , flagstaff located axial sanctum. in other shiva temples of tamil nadu,the first precinct or walls around sanctum of metraleeswarar has images of dakshinamurthy (shiva teacher), durga (warrior-goddess) , chandikeswarar (a saint , devotee of shiva). temple precinct surrounded granite walls. there separate shrine othu urugeeswarar axial main entrance. during weekly , yearly festivals, kachabeswarar given importance on presiding deity metraleeswarar.
