born in salford, greater manchester, rose began career trainee @ manchester united, released before making first-team appearance. following release, joined conference national side chester city, appeared alongside brother, stephen. rose released after 1 season chester.

hereford united

in july 2002, rose joined chester s conference rivals hereford united. while playing hereford, rose made appearances england national game xi team. following successful season missed 1 game, rose committed new one-year deal bulls in april 2003.

yeovil town

league 2 club yeovil town signed rose on two-year contract on 7 may 2004 following second successful season hereford bulls finished second in conference. following championship-winning season yeovil, rose named in pfa team of year league two. on 25 august 2005, having not featured yeovil s first team in 2005–06 season, rose joined cheltenham town on monthlong loan deal injury cover. made 3 loan appearances club, left mutual consent. scunthorpe united took rose on loan on 2 january 2006 initial month-long loan deal. having impressed scunthorpe manager brian laws, rose s loan extended until end of season, making total of 15 appearances. not offered new contract yeovil following expiration of deal , subsequently released.

stockport county

on 15 june 2006, rose signed two-year contract stockport county. after missing first few months of 2007–08 season through injury, rose penned extension club further year in summer 2008, option of further year. however, set leave club in summer of 2009 after falling out manager jim gannon, , had agreed join hartlepool united, stockport in administration , takeover looming, gannon made redundant , rose decided stay. in january 2010, norwich city signed rose on loan until end of season replacement injured adam drury had torn thigh muscle. went straight canaries squad in game against hartlepool. scored on debut game finishing 2–1 norwich , keeping club @ top of league 1 table.

swindon town

having helped norwich win promotion championship, rose signed league 1 side swindon town on 30 june 2010 on free transfer stockport on two-year deal. rose started first 5 games of season club, dropped callum kennedy , alan sheehan, coming on latter , scoring equaliser in game against plymouth argyle, losing game 3–2.

colchester united

in may 2011, rose joined colchester united on two-year deal after swindon relegated , had contact terminated. started colchester’s opening 5 games following switch, dropped manager john ward following poor performances , had wait 4 months next start, making colchester s starting line-up 7 further times in 2011–12 season. began 2012–13 season regular starter. scored first goal club on 21 august 2012 in 2–2 draw portsmouth, equalising on stroke of half-time left-footed strike more 30 yards. goal later win him goal of year award @ end of season awards @ club. on 31 january 2013, contract colchester cancelled mutual consent.

rochdale

on 14 february 2013, rose joined rochdale in league 2 having been free agent since release colchester united. on 15 may 2013, agreed new deal keep him @ spotland 2 further seasons. on 1 july 2014, rose agreed one-year extension current deal, committing himself summer of 2016.
