bilbo in mirkwood forest in playstation 2 version of game. on lower right of hud money, on upper left courage meter, below health meter. rocks, ring meter , healing potions on upper right.


bilbo has 3 weapons available him during combat. begins game walking stick, can used in melee combat, , stones, can throw. use stones, must switch first-person view. later in game, acquires dagger, sting. 3 weapons can powered finding magical scrolls scattered throughout game. these scrolls grant such abilities increased damage, jump attacks, double , treble combo attacks, , charged attacks. game features use of 1 ring, can temporarily turn bilbo invisible, allowing him avoid enemies.


bilbo s health system based upon courage points . @ start of game, has 3 health points. every 1000 courage points collects, acquires health point. courage points come in form of diamonds, different colors representing different numerical values. example, blue diamond equals 1 courage point, green diamond equals ten etc. bilbo s progress in gaining new health point shown in courage meter, on screen @ times. part, courage points scattered throughout levels , awarded completing quests. of higher value diamonds hidden off main path of level, while lowest level diamonds (blue) used indicate player supposed heading.


at end of each chapter, player taken vendor, can spend in-game currency, silver pennies. items available purchase include stones, healing potions, antidotes, skeleton keys, temporary invincibility potions, additional health points, , ability increase maximum number of stones , health potions bilbo can carry.


pennies, healing potions, antidotes and, often, quest items , weapon upgrades can found in chests throughout game. often, chests open when bilbo touches them, sometimes, chests locked, , bilbo must pick lock. involves timed minigame in player must align pointer or select specific target. chests have 1 minigame complete, chests containing more important items have more, maximum of eight. if bilbo misses pointer/target, timer jump forward; if hits red pointer or target, minigame end immediately. penalties failing open chest include losing health points or being poisoned. if player has skeleton key, can bypass minigames , open chest immediately.
