the pontificio collegio urbano de propaganda fide (urban college) established in rome in 1622 in order train missionaries sent around world. students of urban college have full scholarship, lodging, accommodation , academic fees. after completion of studies newly ordained priests return homeland. of 2016 urban college had 165 students, asia , africa.


besides students dioceses of different continents, there seminarians of various churches sui iuris such syro malabar, syro malankara, coptic , chaldean. in april 2015, thirteen seminarians of syro malabar church received minor orders: subdiaconate, , diaconate eminence joseph pallikkaparambil, bishop emititus of diocese of palai, india.


originally, college occupied premises adjacent spanish steps. if there not enough pupils particular country constitute national college, students housed @ urbana.
