he enlisted in united states army and, after graduating school of military aeronautics in berkeley, california, assigned 27th pursuit squadron of 1st pursuit group in france. in world war i, credited 1 victory.


after war, test pilot , later commandant of primary flying school @ carlstrom field in arcadia, florida. went washington, d.c. member of general billy mitchell s staff, , placed in charge of army air service schools. in 1920, lieutenant moseley won first pulitzer air race, flying verville-packard r-1 racer @ record speed of 178 miles per hour (286 km/h). in 1924, organized , commanded air unit of california national guard based either in los angeles or santa monica.


he resigned army major in 1924 or 1925.
