as per hindu legend, saptarishis, 7 sages of hindu mythology believed have worshipped vishnu @ place. vishnu pleased devotion , appeared @ place. per legend, king kulasekara, go on become kulashekhara alwar came place after conquest. horse lost , in search of horse. found horse grazing peacefully on banks of soma theertham, temple tank. after taking bath in tank, felt rejuvanted worshipping vishnu temple in banks. believed have constructed temple , named place thiruvanparisaram (pari in tamil indicates horse). thiru indicates respect, vazh means live , marban indicates heart of person. since vishnu held consort in heart in place, commonly referred thiruvazhmarban.
