in 1933, captivated gentle landscape of alcanada, menorcan-born architect nicolau m. rubió tudurí (not surprisingly director of municipal institute parks , gardens in barcelona) designed summer holiday village in idyllic setting.


rubió drawn notion of garden cities , summer holiday resorts inspired vernacular architecture, promoted new architectural trends of first third of 20th century. hence, project development @ alcanada sought emulate fishermen s village, traditional shacks, narrow streets, , alleyways, including old quarter , newer settlement. @ center of development stood hotel del sol, hotel president, offered several rooms , restaurant residents of development


the horticulturalist , rose grower pedro dot, friend of rubió, built first house in residential development. right away, in 1 year, forty other houses built. several years later, pere dot devoted rose perla de alcanada spot.


in addition rubió himself, sampol family–the owners of alcanada estate–were involved contractors development. spanish civil war brought construction work halt; project left unfinished , in semi-abandoned state decade. took off again in 1950, however, then, urban planning regulations allowed buildings deviated rubió s initial plan, distorting project, exception of original center.


the ensemble of houses nestled around cala ponçet has survived , preserves atmosphere of fishermen s village turned 1 of alcanada s trademarks.
