academic decathlon

casa grande has raised academic decathlon team. team has represented sonoma county last 30 years in decathlon s state-level competition. won california s division ii title 7 times. team has advanced final competition @ national level once, took sixth place overall. in 2017 casa grande s team had taken title of 7th overall team in california division i.


united anglers

the united anglers started in 1983 tom furrer when students argued why being taught endangered species , not given way solve these problems. after finding adobe creek in dried state, , students started growing organization dedicated monitoring endangered steelhead trout, native species found in adobe creek,the hatching, raising, , releasing of rainbow trout , chinook salmon russian river, , educate public. in 1993, students had raised $510,000 build state of art hatchery, opened in 1993. past 34 years, program has been acknowledged jeannie schulz, white house, , anthropologists jane goodall, while receiving multiple awards work. united anglers self-sustaining program, of program’s money raised students through fundraising , donations in order reach $50,000 year budget. after more 30 years of teaching wildlife biology , assisting students in raising rainbow trout in student run hatcheries, tom furrer retired in 2011. program, directed daniel hubacker, continues preserve native strain of steelhead trout.


journalism

the gaucho gazette casa grande high school newspaper. established more decade of 2012, gaucho gazette won first place 63rd redwood empire excellence in journalism prize high school journalism in 2009. paper named 4th best student newspaper national scholastic press association in 2012.
