Under the French Mandate Banu Amela







when french took mandate league of nations after world war i, lebanon became part of mandate, established modern day republic of lebanon in 1920 including south lebanon, bekaa valley, , north lebanon form country.


banu amel in south lebanon governorate resented french rule on territory, establishment of french government offices , military bases, considering encroachment on historical autonomy. guerrilla war ensued, leading many people , prominent resistance figures ally druze of lebanon , neighbouring syria around houran region along golan heights area.

many revolts broke out result beginning 1920s until french departure, , number of brigades formed banu amela fight against french. these led adham khanjar, sadeq hamzeh , muhammad ahmad bazzi brigades. 1 of important events in course of revolt occurred in 1936 when town of bint-jbeil carried great fight against french, later described struggle sake of independence. people killed in event considered martyrs of lebanese resistance french occupation.

after lebanon gained independence on november 22, 1943 , time french army withdrew soldiers lebanon in 1946, lebanese national pact, notional , unofficial understanding, allocated seat of speaker of parliament shia in recognition role demographically , politically, remained socially , financially marginalized.


this status had historical alliance french compacted maronites in lebanon, , fact of development projects took place in beirut or regions surrounding it, had positive outcome since many active young people travelled abroad looking better opportunities. in 1960s , 1970s west africa received bulk of shia emigrants south lebanon, senegal, ivory coast, sierra leone, cameroon, , zaire, therefore providing them opportunities build wealth , political connections persists until today.


later on, in late 1980s , throughout 1990s new emigration destinations included u.s., canada, , many parts in south america such argentina, brazil, venezuela, uruguay , in australia.
