infinite crisis announced in march 2005. event kicked off release of countdown infinite crisis. countdown infinite crisis followed 4 six-issue limited series: omac project, rann–thanagar war, day of vengeance, , villains united, four-part limited series dc special: return of donna troy. these first 4 limited series each had special tie-in issue, released @ monthly intervals during infinite crisis event.
tie-ins
as many large-scale comic crossovers, infinite crisis featured large number of tie-ins. before event announced, books such adam strange , identity crisis being described part of bigger plans. after countdown, several books identified tie-ins 4 mini-series. thus, although infinite crisis 7 issues long, plot elements appeared in dozens of publications.
some of these books of direct , major importance, such superman sacrifice , jla crisis of conscience storylines, latter of ended justice league s lunar watchtower being destroyed, leading directly infinite crisis #1.

dc comics executive editor dan didio stated infinite crisis being hinted @ in various stories 2 years prior launch, starting death of donna troy. leadup understated until release of adam strange limited series in 2004, @ point industry press began report dc planning large event, mentioning titles teen titans, flash, , jsa, written geoff johns.
with countdown infinite crisis, infinite crisis began visibly affect dc s editorial policy. geoff johns , grant morrison moved editorial positions in addition writing duties, respectively coordinate coherence of dc universe , handle reimaginings of several characters. mark waid signed exclusive contract dc, receiving similar editorial role. dc replaced official decades-old logo (the dc bullet ) new 1 (the dc spin ) debuted in first issue of dc special: return of donna troy.
aside marking major editorial shift within dc comics, infinite crisis return large company-wide crossovers of sort had been uncommon since downturn of comic industry in 1990s.
