in 2000, canterbury christ church acquired lease of sidney cooper gallery in canterbury city centre, established art school noted cattle painter thomas sidney cooper in 1868. art students moved building in december 2002, taking original use art school. in 2004, refurbished gallery space opened public. gallery exhibits staff , student work, work local, national , international artists. grapevine gallery , cafe opened public in september 2006, selling artwork students , staff providing internet cafe facilities.
in 2003-2004, 2 major buildings acquired in canterbury – large office block formerly known clarkson house, demolished , replaced augustine house, new building designed architectural practice adp , home of university s integrated library , student support services. project completed in 2009. augustine house won best educational project category @ local authority building control awards south east region.
