the queen elizabeth class equipped 8 breech-loading (bl) 15-inch (381 mm) mk guns in 4 twin gun turrets, in 2 superfiring pairs fore , aft of superstructure, designated , b , x , , y front rear. twelve of fourteen bl 6-inch (152 mm) mk xii guns mounted in casemates along broadside of vessel amidships; remaining pair mounted on forecastle deck near aft funnel , protected gun shields. anti-aircraft (aa) armament consisted of 2 quick-firing (qf) 3-inch (76 mm) 20 cwt mk guns. ships fitted 4 submerged 21 inch (533 mm) torpedo tubes, 2 on each broadside.
malaya completed 2 fire-control directors fitted 15-foot (4.6 m) rangefinders. 1 mounted above conning tower, protected armoured hood, , other in spotting top above tripod foremast. each turret fitted 15-foot rangefinder. main armament controlled b turret well. secondary armament controlled directors mounted on each side of compass platform on foremast once fitted in april 1917.
the waterline belt of queen elizabeth class consisted of krupp cemented armour (kc) 13 inches (330 mm) thick on ships vitals. gun turrets protected 11 13 inches (279 330 mm) of kc armour , supported barbettes 7–10 inches (178–254 mm) thick. ships had multiple armoured decks ranged 1 3 inches (25 76 mm) in thickness. main conning tower protected 13 inches of armour. after battle of jutland, 1 inch of high-tensile steel added main deck on magazines , additional anti-flash equipment added in magazines.
