service history

the submarine laid down on 25 august 1942 @ flensburger schiffsbau yard @ flensburg yard number 493, launched on 28 july 1942 , commissioned on 12 november under command of oberleutnant zur see karl nielsen.


she served 4th u-boat flotilla 19 november 1943, 8th flotilla 1 august 1944 , 4th flotilla on 16 february 1945.


u-370 spent entire career in relatively confined waters of baltic sea , gulf of finland.


1st-5th patrols

the boat s first patrol preceded trips kiel marviken , kiel, departed on 9 july 1944. sailed through baltic , gulf of finland, arriving @ reval, (now tallinn in estonia), on 12 july.


she spent rest of career in ostsee, sinking soviet patrol boat mo-101 in björkö sound on 31 july 1944 during fifth patrol.


6th-12th patrols

during ninth sortie matrosengefreiter erwin stiegeler swept overboard in baltic on 23 september 1944.


it while on eleventh foray sank finnish minelayer louhi (12 january 1945).


fate

u-370 scuttled in geltinger bucht (east of flensburg) on 5 may 1945. wreck broken in 1948.
