avon-by-the-sea has governed under walsh act since 1919, three-member commission. members of commission elected at-large in nonpartisan elections serve four-year terms of office on concurrent basis.


as of 2016, members of avon-by-the-sea board of commissioners mayor john magrini (commissioner of public works, parks , public property), robert mahon (commissioner of revenue , finance) , francis e. gorman (commissioner of public affairs , public safety), serving concurrent terms of office end december 31, 2019.

avon-by-the-sea located in 4th congressional district , part of new jersey s 30th state legislative district. prior 2011 reapportionment following 2010 census, avon-by-the-sea had been in 11th state legislative district. prior 2010 census, avon-by-the-sea had been part of 6th congressional district, change made new jersey redistricting commission took effect in january 2013, based on results of november 2012 general elections.


new jersey s fourth congressional district represented christopher smith (r). new jersey represented in united states senate democrats cory booker (newark, term ends 2021) , bob menendez (paramus, 2019).


for 2016–2017 session (senate, general assembly), 30th legislative district of new jersey legislature represented in state senate robert singer (r, lakewood township) , in general assembly sean t. kean (r, wall township) , ned thomson (r, wall township). thomson sworn office on august 24, 2017 fill seat of dave rible, had resigned office on july 17, 2017 become director of new jersey division of alcoholic beverage control. governor of new jersey chris christie (r, mendham township). lieutenant governor of new jersey kim guadagno (r, monmouth beach).
