sk admira vienna formed in vienna district of jedlesee merger between 2 football clubs named burschenschaft einigkeit , sportklub vindobona in 1905. in 1919, admira promoted first tier of austrian league system first time in history. club became 1 of more successful teams during inter-war period, capturing 7 austrian national championship , 3 austrian cup titles. several admira players regulars in austrian national football team @ time.


after anschluss in 1938, admira played several seasons in gauliga ostmark, 1 of top-flight regional leagues created through reorganization of german football under third reich. win of 1938–39 gauliga ostmark qualified them 1939 german football championship, in admira made way final against schalke 04, dominant german football team of era. lost overwhelmingly score of 0–9. effort marked last major success vienna before end of world war ii.


post-war

the post-war period led slow, steady decline due lack of funds buy more competitive players. culminated first brief relegation top tier after forty years in 1960. club underwent 2 name changes in period, playing esv admira vienna after merger railroad sports club esv vienna in 1953 before changing esv admira-nÖ energie vienna in 1960 due sponsorship agreement regional energy suppliers newag/niogas. thereafter, admira (or admira energie, called in media during time) regained of earlier strength, winning austrian cup in 1964 , double of league , cup titles in 1966.


the revelation of financial scandals within newag/niogas in late 1960s led abrupt end of steady flow of funds , brought club onto brink of administration, narrowly avoided. nevertheless, admira began looking merger partner, , particularly targeted austria vienna. however, after creation of admira-austria declined twice, admira began talks sc wacker vienna, concluded in 1971.

wacker vienna formed in 1908 in vienna district of meidling. club reached first tier of austrian league system first time in 1914. being mid-table side until second half of 1930s, wacker became top-team in 1940s , 1950s, winning double in 1947 , ending league runners-up 8 more times between 1940 , 1956.


during last decade independent club became bona-fide yo-yo club, 8 straight relegations or promotions austrian top tier between 1961 , 1968. fifth relegation in 1971, combined financial , stadium problems, led merger admira, forming fc admira/wacker vienna.


vfb mödling

vfb mödling formed on 17 june 1911 in lower austrian town of mödling. since foundation, mödling playing in highest lower austrian league. introduction of austria-wide national league in 1949, club classified second tier. playing of existence in second- , third-tier leagues since then, club enjoyed 3 brief stints in top division during 1952–53 , 1987–88 seasons between 1992 , 1995 before merging admira/wacker in 1997.


1997 2011 merger vfb mödling , financial trouble

in 1997, after financial crisis, vfb mödling , admira wacker merged. in 2004 iranian majid pishyar purchased club. stewardship of club led on-field , off-field difficulties. club relegated after 2005–06 season. further financial trouble, pishyar sold club richard trenkwalder in 2008. trenkwalder made series of changes club, including changing club s name fc trenkwalder admira. changes paid off, club gaining promotion austrian first division following 2010–11 season. (majid pishyar, meanwhile, notably caused similar financial problems @ swiss club, servette, in 2011–12 season.)
