kosovo
the kosovo section of white drin flows entirely in semi-karst part of kosovo, in arc-shaped 122-kilometre (76 mi)-long course. river originates in southern slopes of zhleb mountain, north of town of peja. river springs near radavačka cave. cave multi-leveled, not explored , has lake inside. water spring used peć brewery. stream sinking river springs out strong , falls down 25-metre (82 ft)-high waterfall named white drin waterfall near village of radovac, 8 km (5.0 mi) away peć. in 1934, russian émigré dimitry tyapkin projected , constructed hydroelectric power plant next waterfalls produced electricity town.
the white drin first flows east, next spa of banja e pejës, , villages of banje, trbuhovac , zlakućan, receives istočka river left , turns south. rest of course through fertile , densely populated central section of kosovo(podrima region), oddly, there not 1 large settlement on river itself, despite many smaller villages on river. largest cities kilometers away river (peja, gjakova, prizren) whilst smaller towns (klina) , large villages (krusha e madhe, gjonaj) closer it. white drin creates small white drin canyon in republic of kosovo.
the white drin receives many relatively long tributaries: pećka bistrica, dečanska bistrica, prue potok, , erenik right; istočka, klina, mirusa, rimnik, topluga , lumi prizrenit left.
the kosovo part of white drin basin comprises 4,360 km (1,680 sq mi). here waters of river used waterworks of big nearby towns, irrigation , power production (especially right tributaries). @ vrbnica-shalqin border crossing, river enters eastern albanian region of trektan.
albania
the albanian section of river 16 km (9.9 mi) long drainage area of 604 km (233 sq mi). there no settlements on river , receives lumë river left (which originates in kosovo, several rivers in region. finally, white drin reaches town of kukës meets black drin , forms drin, flows adriatic sea; white drin belongs adriatic sea drainage basin. river not navigable.
the entire albanian section (and part of kosovan) flooded artificial fierza lake (see drin controversy).
