undergraduate curriculum
beginning in 1981, college instituted group of classes undergraduates required take, called core studies . classes were: classical origins of western culture, introduction art, introduction music, people, power, , politics, shaping of modern world, introduction mathematical reasoning , computer programming, landmarks of literature, chemistry, physics, biology, geology, studies in african, asian, , latin american cultures, , knowledge, existence , values.
in 2006, core curriculum revamped, , 13 required courses replaced 15 courses in 3 disciplines, students required take 11. in fall 2013, brooklyn college embarked on cuny s new general education alternative, pathways curriculum, consisting of 3 components: required core (four courses), flexible core (six courses) , college option (four courses)—totaling 42 credits. brooklyn college offers on hundred majors varying visual arts women s studies.

the division of graduate studies @ brooklyn college established in 1935 , offers more seventy programs in arts, education, humanities, sciences, , computer , social sciences. among programs, graduate theatre program, top ranked in cuny system , 14th in country; faculty include tony award nominee.

b.a.-m.d. program
the brooklyn college b.a.–m.d. program 8-year program affiliated suny downstate medical center. program follows rigorous selection process, maximum of 15 students selected every year. each student selected program receives brooklyn college presidential scholarship. b.a.–m.d. students must engage in community service 3 years, beginning in lower sophomore semester. during 1 summer of undergraduate studies, students required volunteer in clinical setting involved in direct patient care. b.a.-m.d. students encouraged major in humanities or social sciences. student majors in science must choose minor in humanities or social sciences. students meet pre-med science requirements taking cell , molecular biology, botany, physiology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, , general physics. b.a.–m.d. students must maintain @ brooklyn college overall grade point average of 3.5, , pre-med science gpa of 3.5.
the scholars program
the scholars program home small number of students strong writing ability , academic record. being oldest honors program in cuny system, scholars program has served model many other honors programs nationwide. established in 1960 , interdisciplinary liberal arts program. program offers honors-level core courses , seminars small, personalized classes. upon graduation brooklyn college, many scholars continue education in competitive programs @ top-ranked universities princeton, yale, , new york university. program accepts incoming freshmen in addition matriculated sophomores , transfer students (up 48 credits). once admitted, receive brooklyn college foundation presidential scholarship of $4,000 every year of undergraduate study @ brooklyn college , laptop computer.
coordinated engineering program
the coordinated honors engineering program offers course of study equivalent first 2 years @ engineering school. students maintain required academic level guaranteed transfer 1 of 3 coordinating schools—nyu-poly, city college of new york school of engineering, , college of staten island engineering science program—to complete bachelor’s degree in engineering. coordinating engineering students have transferred suny stony brook, university of wisconsin, university of michigan, cooper union, , massachusetts institute of technology. students admitted incoming first-year receive brooklyn college foundation presidential scholarship provides full tuition 2 years of full-time undergraduate study in coordinated engineering program. members of honors academy, engineering honors students take advantage of individual advising, faculty consultation, , registration. in commons find study facilities, computer access, academic, scholarship, internship, , career opportunities, and, above all, intellectual stimulation among other talented students themselves. students applying engineering honors program considered scholars program.

barry r. feirstein graduate school of cinema first public graduate film school in city of new york. film school in america have own classroom on film lot collaboration of steiner studios, largest soundstage on east coast. program offers m.a. in cinema studies , m.f.a in cinema arts 5 disciplines of cinematography,
directing, post-production, producing , screenwriting. school opened in fall 2015. discipline of digital arts available in fall 2016.
