on may 10, 2013, series renewed fifth season. on june 1, 2013, dan harmon announced return showrunner season five, replacing season 4 showrunners moses port , david guarascio, former writer chris mckenna returning executive producer. on june 10, sony television officially confirmed return of harmon , mckenna fifth season. dino stamatopoulos, rob schrab , russo brothers returned well.


however, cast member donald glover decided not return full-time cast member fifth season, appearing in first 5 of thirteen episodes. make absence of glover , chase, jonathan banks cast in fifth season in august 2013 , appeared in 11 of season s 13 episodes, portraying buzz hickey, criminology professor. additionally, john oliver, played professor duncan throughout first 2 seasons, reprised role in season 5 multiple episodes.


on may 9, 2014, nbc announced had canceled community. several years prior cancellation, fans adopted slogan 6 seasons , movie , line episode paradigms of human memory regarding abed s hopeful legacy of nbc s short-lived series cape. bids continue series turned down popular streaming providers netflix , hulu.
