the high school building expanded , modernized 1996–1999. renovations took long time , created many issues, 1 being 1 side of school higher other. significant physical addition school during these years demolition of small building @ rear center of (used counselling suite , lounge area) , construction of three-floor addition house new , spacious science classrooms/laboratories, large seminar classrooms. change, rear classrooms in center of original building lost exterior windows, , looked out on open common space adjacent 2 new cafeterias, separated large new kitchen. further new addition included new administrative offices. meant these offices left original locations along front of center wing of original building. space became new principal s office, infirmary, sewing classroom, , new staircase added, well. construction of additions, wood, metal, , motor shops eliminated building, along courses. wood shop continued offered @ haverford middle school wood shop.
also during 1996–1999 renovations, original cafeteria renovated new art classroom wing, large college-style seminar classroom. moving of art rooms, former art space became current choir classroom. former choir classroom became new weight room use of school s athletes. original library space turned classroom space child development , cooking classes. change came elimination of faculty lunchroom part of building.
additionally, renovations involved removing entire interior of areas being renovated, such today s classrooms not merely redone versions of original rooms, rather, entirely new rooms. 1 long-debated result of renovation in removing interior , building anew, walls of concrete brick , glazed tiling removed, , replaced uniformly drywall. result, walls damaged , require patching or painting. 1 other change many windows covered or eliminated in renovation. example, exterior of building today reveals along upper section of gymnasium, stuccoed panels cover had been large windows. , classrooms lost half window area glass bricks covered over, leaving lower, operable parts of windows exposed. rear wall of interior of auditorium once lined windows covered drapes; renovations replaced windows walls. area of school appears did when building first opened auditorium , gymnasium lobby, still combine terrazzo flooring, chrome, blond varnished wood, , glazed bricks, giving area character entire building once had.
a positive result of renovation large, bright, , attractive library includes large mezzanine desktop computers student usage. school air-conditioned in renovation.
