the royal palaces of denmark became property of state introduction of constitutional monarchy in 1849. since then, varying number of these has been put @ disposal of monarchy. agreement on renewed @ accession of every new monarch.

the monarch has use of 4 palaces @ amalienborg in copenhagen residence , work palace. currently, queen herself resides in christian ix s palace , crown prince in frederik viii s palace. christian viii s palace has apartments other members of royal family, whereas christian vii s palace used official events , accommodate guests.


amalienborg built in 1750s architect nicolai eigtved 4 noble families; however, when christiansborg palace burned in 1794, royal family bought palaces , moved in.


the state rooms of christian viii s palace , christian vii s palace may visited public on guided tours.

another residence fredensborg palace north of copenhagen used principally in spring , autumn. site of state visits , ceremonial events in royal family.


the palace may visited public on guided tours when not in use.


graasten palace

in jutland, graasten palace @ disposal of monarch. used summer residence of king frederick ix , queen ingrid. since death of queen ingrid in 2000, queen has stayed @ graasten yearly vacation in summer.


hermitage hunting lodge

the hunting lodge eremitage palace in dyrehaven deer park north of copenhagen used during royal hunts in dyrehaven.


sorgenfri palace

finally, sorgenfri palace @ disposal of monarch. residence of hereditary prince knud , hereditary princess caroline mathilde , not in official use @ @ time.


marselisborg palace

apart these state-owned palaces, marselisborg palace in aarhus privately owned queen. functions summer residence of queen, during easter , christmas holidays.
