the grand council of bern (german: grosser rat / french: grand conseil) parliament of canton of bern. consists of 160 representatives elected proportional representation four-year terms of office. french-speaking part of canton, bernese jura, has 12 seats guaranteed , 3 seats guaranteed french-speaking minority of bilingual district of biel/bienne.


the executive council of bern (german: regierungsrat / french: conseil-éxecutif) government of canton of bern. seven-member collegial body elected people period of 4 years. cantonal constitution reserves 1 seat in executive council french-speaking citizen bernese jura.


the canton has two-tiered court system, consisting of district courts , cantonal supreme court (german: obergericht, french: cour suprême). there administrative court (german: verwaltungsgericht; french: tribunal administratif) other specialised courts , judicial boards.
