after spill, bangladeshi fishermen began clean oil using sponges , sacks. padma oil company, government-owned corporation, bought oil @ price of 30 takas per litre. bangladeshi navy sent 4 ships deal spill, , planned use chemicals disperse oil, plan canceled, there concerns dispersing oil further damage ecology , biodiversity of mangrove forest. government of bangladesh closed shela river vessels. owner of sunken oil tanker, ms harun & co., began salvage efforts, assisted 3 private rescue vessels. bangladesh forest department filed 1 billion taka lawsuit against owners of 2 cargo ships involved in collision. 12 january 2015, government, of local residents, bangladesh navy, , owner of oil tanker, had collected 70,000 litres (15,000 imp gal; 18,000 us gal) of oil. bangladesh government said not have capacity manage oil spills.


the economic relations division of bangladesh government sent letter united nation s bangladesh office on 15 december 2014, asking in oil collection efforts. united nations accepted request, , team unep , ocha went site of spill. team united nations disaster assessment , coordination arrived in dhaka support cleanup efforts.
