in 1925, 2 years after advent of cine-kodak motion picture camera, macmurray began making amateur films of life , travels in china, such trips great wall of china , journey down yangtze river. 1 film depicted procession of sun yat-sen s body original burial place in peking new mausoleum in nanking. film recorded in april 1928 captured scenes of daily life in kalgan, north of peking. macmurray, along wife , sister, had traveled kalgan , changpeh roy chapman andrews, american explorer , naturalist made multiple expeditions gobi desert. during civil war in 1928, however, rogue brigands , soldiers had made travel difficult in region. secure passage between kalgan , changpeh, macmurray enlisted aid of local warlord chang tso-lin, provided escort of 50 cavalry, 8 cars, , 150 camels.
